Junior High Sports

Ladies make history

Earlier this year, the junior high girl's basketball teams, both 7th and 8th graders, managed to win, taking home the first-place win. The amazing 7th-grade girl's team had an incredible season and ended with 8 wins and 0 losses. The 8th-grade girls struggled to win the pennant and after being defeated twice by Cloverdale, they had given up hope and thought they lost, only to discover that they had won after all. The 8th-grade girl's volleyball team won the pennant for volleyball as well and won every single game except for one, they were first. The 7th-grade team had an amazing season as well and came in second in the league behind the Cloverdale team which was near impossible to beat. Despite this, both teams had a great season and will never forget what an accomplishment they made. The 8th-grade girl's volleyball team and both the 7th and 8th-grade basketball teams will all have their banners hung up in the big gym soon enough.

An inside opinion has been shared by one of the starting players on the volleyball team, who really expresses the true meaning of teamwork and paints a picture of the dynamic of the team.

“So what do you think about our junior high girl's volleyball championship, and what does it mean to you?”

“I feel great I feel like we all have come a long way and everyone deserved to go through a really good thing like everyone thought we were going to be bad but we are better than they think. We have a team. Actually not even a team, a family. We all have grown to love each other and make each other feel special and great for everything we have. Not even in the court but outside the court, everyone has a really great heart and cheers you on from inside and outside the court. If you make a mistake they wouldn’t push you on it and say something rude, they would just say ‘it happens you’ll learn’. I know we all did and that’s what makes us a family that no matter what happens we all support and care for each other in a way we never thought. We all have our downs and anger issues in and out of the court, but we all learned to deal with them because of our coach. We all love and care for Bud like we all know he cares for us…” -Dianet Infante (8th grade).

As it is very clear, both the basketball and volleyball 8th grade junior high girls team worked very hard and made a very big accomplishment, as well as never giving up! Even though our 8th-grade team struggled at times and came close to giving up, but never stopped.

I asked another athlete from the sports team questions about the championship and how she felt, as well as her opinion on our team’s struggles, as she was a starting player on both the volleyball and basketball teams.

“How does it feel knowing you won both the volleyball and basketball seasons this year?

“Personally, it feels really good because it shows how hard we worked, not only as a team,  but individually as well” - Ella Marron (8th grade).

“Are you happy about this accomplishment?”

“Yes, I'm very happy because it's like history in the making and hopefully we can get the next generation to do the next thing.” - Ella Marron (8th grade).

What do you think the biggest struggle of this achievement was?

“ I feel like the biggest struggle was communication because even though we played at our best, we had a lack of communication in both basketball and volleyball”- Ella Marron.

I personally think we never gave up because we understood how far we have come, and we had a goal. A goal was to win the pennant for the school in two sports in one year before we went off to High School.
